Someone has said: “Be kind to the women. They constitute half the population and are mothers to the other half.”- Pres Hinckley
Mom, Not only do I hope to be just like you when I grow up, but I also hope to continue the "Cuban-ness" in you so my children can know what it was like to have a Cuban mother.
For those of you who don't know, having a Cuban mother meant:
- eating amazing food
- not getting away with ANYTHING...a Cuban mother is everywhere. She knows all, and sees all.
- when she's happy, she's HAaaaPPY!
- when she's mad, you hide
- getting kissed all the time, everywhere you go, no matter who sees it
- eating all your food and then getting a second and sometimes third helping...(so you don't go hungry)
- hearing "I don't care what your friends say, tell your friends its because your mother is Cuban" as the reason your teenage self couldn't do things...
- everything you achieved was as exciting to her as fireworks on the fourth of July
- learning to appreciate growing up in a free country
- learning to appreciate growing up with running water, food, opportunity
- learning the highest level of generosity
- being immaculately clean, "just because you're poor doesn't give you an excuse to be dirty"
- nothing goes unsaid; if she thinks it, she'll say it
- learning how to work hard
- being loved deeply, openly, emotionally and affectionately.
Mami, yo soy quien soy gracias a ti.
